AXIS Camera Station is an IP-Surveillance software that works with Axis network cameras and video encoders to provide video monitoring, recording and event management functions. Users can record video continuously, on schedule, on alarm and/or on motion detection. The software has multiple search functions for recorded events. Remote viewing and playback are also possible with the use of the AXIS Camera Station Windows client.

AXIS Video Hosting System (AVHS) is a server software especially designed for service providers such as security companies and Internet service providers. By installing the software to their own server or by using an assigned hosting partner, service providers can offer a true plug-and-play camera monitoring service over the Internet.

What is a video encoder?

A video encoder (also referred to as video server) digitizes analog video signals and sends digital images directly over an IP network, such as a LAN, intranet or Internet. It essentially turns an analog video system into a network video system and enables users to view live images using a Web browser or a video management software on any local or remote computer on a network.

It allows authorized viewers from different locations to simultaneously access images from the same analog camera, as well as network cameras if they are added to the system.

Remote accessibility

An IP-based surveillance system will give you the ability to secure people and property, or monitor equipment and facilities, remotely from anywhere there is a networked computer.

In addition, by utilizing the serial ports of a video server, you can remotely control existing equipment such as pan/tilt/zoom devices or time-lapse tape recorders. A video server can be connected to a wide variety of specialized cameras such as a miniature or microscope camera

How does it work

The applications are developed by Axis’ application development partners and are ready to be embedded in the camera or encoder. Placing the application directly in the product – "at the edge" – helps to build more cost-effective surveillance systems. Note: The first compatible application available is AXIS Cross Line Detection, released in December 2009. Moving forward, the number of applications is expected to increase significantly, as Axis will implement the open application platform in a majority of its products during 2010.
