SV90 CESG Approved Degausser

SV90 CESG Approved Degausser Drawer operated security eraser for cassettes and cartridges.

The SV90 Security Degausser is able to perform automatic erasure of high-density magnetic media achieved by applying a highly focused magnetic field created by Verity Systems exclusive multi-axis, 'pole tip' design. The tapes or cassettes are placed in the drawer compartment and rotated within the powerful 7000 Gauss field ensuring uniform and complete erasure. The SV90 can degauss a wide range of media.

Media Handling

The SV90 degausser can cope with a range of media including tapes of up to 16 inches diameter. Up to fifty reels or two hundred cassettes can be efficiently and quietly erased per hour, the SV90 bulk eraser operates continuously and is quiet, cool and efficient.

Government Approved

The Verity SV90 security degausser is UK government approved to the CESG Degaussing Standard. This new Standard, which replaces the SEAP 8500 Degaussing Standard has two levels of degaussing:

  • Lower Level - for RESTRICTED and below
  • Higher Level - for CONFIDENTIAL and above

Currently the SV590 is approved at the Lower Level. This means any magnetic media (holding RESTRICTED or less) may be regarded as NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED after being degaussed.

The SV90 is subject to S(E)N 06/09. which requires all the SEAP-approved degaussers to be retested against the new CESG Degaussing Standard (at the Higher Level). At this time, the testing standard is not yet available.

The SV90 security degausser may still be used to degauss magnetic media at CONFIDENTIAL and above, but the degaussed media is subject to additional handling requirements (detailed in S(E)N 06/09).

What is a Degausser?

A degausser is a piece of equipment which uses an electro-magnet to erase or wipe date from magnetic media such as audio & video tape, computer storage tapes and even computer hard drives. Often referred to as a tape eraser and hard drive erasers.

Simply overwriting magnetic media does not completely erase data. Only a degausser can remove data 100% and ensure that confidential data is securely and completely erased.

Points to Consider When Choosing a Degausser

  • Type of media used: What formats do you need to be degaussed? Different degaussers can handle different types of media.
  • Volume of media: How much media do you need to degauss and in what sort of timeframe?
  • Density of media: Magnetic media varies in its density. You will need a degausser with enough power to completely erase data on your media.
  • Type of Operation: Manual or Automatic. Do you have enough time to erase tapes manually or would your prefer an automated system?
  • Proposed location of Degausser: How much room do you have for a degausser?
